CHUMBE ISLAND

Avec sa superficie de 55 hectares, l’île de Chumbe est reconnue comme “réserve naturelle protégée” et a remporté de nombreux prix dans le domaine de l’écotourisme pour  son aspect naturel et la protection de la biodiversité. L’île de Chumbe est gérée par une organisation non gouvernementale pour la conservation de la nature et l’éducation des enfants.

L’île se situe à environ 6km au sud-est de Zanzibar et 60km de la côte Tanzanienne. Connue pour sa faune intacte et ses vues magnifiques, l’île de Chumbe offre une incroyable opportunité de se rapprocher d’un écosystème riche et diversifié.

When to visit the island

It is very important to know that Chumbe Island is closed between 1 April and 3 June, during the rainy season. You can therefore access the island the rest of the time.

How to get to Chumbe Island

Chumbe Island is easily accessible by boat from Stone Town. The journey takes around 45 minutes.

Where to stay on Chumbe Island

The island has 7 bungalows (made of wood and local plants), which limits the number of tourists. Even if all the bungalows are occupied, they are designed to give you privacy and the freedom of the open air.

All the bungalows offer panoramic views of the island and the turquoise waters that separate Zanzibar from the Tanzanian coast.

You can also take a day trip and stay on another island in the archipelago.
