Welcome on arrival at Kilimanjaro airport and transfer to the lodge located close to the airport.
Free dinner and overnight stay at the lodge
Breakfast at the lodge. Depart for Manyara Park.
From the main entrance, the road winds its way through lush jungle, where groups of baboons, a hundred strong, bustle along the path, blue monkeys camouflage themselves in the trees and timid harnessed guibs move cautiously between the light and shade of the undergrowth. The silver-cheeked hornbills amaze with their enormous helmets, as if they were due to go to war in the next hour.
All-day game drive and picnic lunch under the umbrella acacias.
This park, in the Rift Valley, has an interesting diversity of wildlife to observe: elephants, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala and many others. The hippo pond attracts a large number of aquatic birds. The parc Manyara sometimes offers a rare sight, that of lions perched, sometimes very high, in the umbrella acacias. Will you be so lucky as to catch a glimpse of them perched?
At the end of the day, you will drive to the village of Mto Wa Mbu, where you can visit the village if you ask your driver.
Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Forest Tented Lodge (or equivalent).
Breakfast at the lodge. Depart for the Ngorongoro Crater.
This day will be devoted to discovering this famous crater, considered to be the 8th Wonder of the World.
The crater is a vast caldera 20 km in diameter. At its heart lies an incredibly rich fauna, perfectly protected by a 600-metre-high rampart.
Exceptional moment : this is one of the only places in Tanzania where you can see the “Big Five”: elephant, lion, rhino, leopard and buffalo.
More than 500 species of birds, both resident and migratory, can be seen in the crater. Lake Magadi, with its brackish waters, is often visited by pink flamingos. Hippos bask in the freshwater ponds, while buffalo bathe in the mud.
Ou at Ndutu Wildlands Camp in Ndutu from January to March (or equivalent).
Depart for the safari in the Serengeti just after breakfast.
From January to March the programme is adapted to match the migration as closely as possible:
Day 04: Safari in Ndutu and overnight at Ndutu Wildlands Camp (or equivalent)
Day 05: Safari in the Serengeti and overnight at The Whisper (January-February-March).
The Serengeti is the country’s second-largest national park (14,763 km2). Famous for the annual migration of thousands of wildebeest, the park offers a breathtaking array of landscapes: the grassy savannah of the endless plains to the south, the hilly woodlands to the west, the Kopjes region (a granite formation) to the east and the shrub savannah to the north.
In these vast plains with numerous permanent waterholes, the herds of herbivores followed by their predators offer an impressive spectacle. The Serengeti is so large that you may be the only ones to witness the hunt led by the cheetah whose favourite prey is Thomson’s gazelle.
Dinner and overnight stay at Serengeti Wildlands Mobile Camp from June to November (or equivalent).
Ou at Ndutu Wildlands Camp (or equivalent) on Day 04 at Ndutu from January to March and The Whisper (January-February)) on Day 05 in the Serengeti.
After breakfast, departure for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, taking a final game drive in the Serengeti or Ndutu depending on the time of year.
This profusion of animals in the northern parks has generated a local economy focused on ecotourism. Tanzania has established protection policies and specific taxation of tourist activities.
Afternoon stopover in the Olduvaï region, with the opportunity to visit a Masai village (optional, payable locally).
Dinner and overnight at Plantation Lodge (or equivalent)
Picnic lunch at Arusha airport and flight to Zanzibar.

For French nationals, a visa is compulsory. It can be obtained on arrival at the airport. You will be asked to pay $50 in cash (USD banknotes dated after 2006). Waiting times at the airport for visas can be long; expect to wait between 2 hours and 2.5 hours. Visas can also be obtained online, but please allow 2 to 3 weeks for processing. The Tanzanian authorities’ official online visa application website: https://eservices.immigration.go.tz/visa
+1h in summer, +2h in winter compared with France.
The yellow fever vaccine was reinstated in early 2008. You should allow more than 14 days before your departure. Don’t forget to take your international vaccination certificate with you, as customs officials may ask for it when you enter Tanzania or Zanzibar.
Vaccinations not compulsory but recommended: against typhoid, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, DTP and in certain cases against meningitis A and C, and against rabies (check with your doctor).
Preventive treatment against malaria is essential. Remember to take mosquito repellent with you.
English and Swahili are the two official languages. There are also many African dialects, reflecting the country’s tribal diversity.
Tanzanian shilling: 1€=2600 TSH (January 2019)
For US dollars, remember to take notes issued after 2006 !!!
Since the recent ban on bureaux de change in Tanzania, you can only withdraw Tanzanian shillings from ATMs in Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar. However, the euro and, more particularly, the US dollar are widely used and may suffice to pay for all your purchases in Tanzania (USD notes dating from after 2006). But be sure to carry small denominations;
If you wish to pay for certain purchases by credit card, you should be aware that additional credit card payment charges will be applied (approximately 4 to 6%).
The current is 230V. The plug is English; an adaptor is recommended.
Apart from the Kilimanjaro ascent, which requires special equipment, the weather is relatively warm all year round. You should, however, bring a jumper and windbreaker for nights spent near the crater or in a bivouac, as well as for stays in July and August, which can be cooler months. It is advisable to wear light trousers in the parks to ensure peaceful cohabitation with certain insects.
You’ll also need light walking shoes, a hat, sun cream, a torch, binoculars and batteries for your camera. Cameras with zoom lenses can be hired.
Please note that for domestic flights, only soft luggage, strictly limited to 15kg, is allowed (including hand luggage)!
It is common practice to tip people who accompany or assist you on your journey. To take your bag to your room, the porter will expect a small tip of TSH 500 (around €30), and the driver guide will expect $20 per day on safari.

Merci Elodie, merci Khalid, merci Hors Pistes.
